Unlike his father he had wealth, supported his three wives and their children. Although he was scared scared to become like his father, he would work hard to not get anywhere near as low as his father. he was not afraid of war. He was a man of action, a man of war. The village people didnt care after they let them be be but as soon as villagers started converting Okonkwo wanted to get rid of them more and more. In the text it states He seized a heavy stick and it him two or three savage blows(Achebe, 152). When Okonkwo found out Nwoye converted, his anger took over and beat him. He also started trash talking the missionaries and their people. Okonkwo started hating the missionaries even more. After Okonkwo had to deal with the missionaries influence on Nwoye, he was not willing to change. One thing that did change was his dignity, he wasnt the man he once was. In a way Okonkwo felt defeated, weak and betrayed by his own son. The betrayal he felt was because Nwoye converted to Christianity. He felt defeated because more and more clan members were turning to Christianity, like the women. Women were changing because they werent willing to kill their twins for much longer. Okonkwo was quickly losing power over the people and becoming like his father, weaker and weaker. He wasnt willing to adapt to Christianity and missionaries. All in all, Things Fall Apart is about the reality of cultural colonization. Okonkwo was a big part of story, he showed how many reacted in such a negative way that in the end he was willing to kill himself. The Pros and Cons of Medical Marijuana Essay - 1201 Words

Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug in America (behind only alcohol and tobacco), and has been used by nearly 100 million Americans. According to government surveys, some 25 million Americans have smoked marijuana in the past year, and more than 14 million do so regularly despite harsh laws against its use. Our public policies should reflect this reality, not deny it.(keith stroepe). Marijuana should be legalized for medical use across the country. Marijuana has been used medically, recreationally and spiritually for about 5,000 years. Hoxter a weed smuggler explains how he began in the 1960’s trying weed and years later saw himself unloading four hundred pounds of pot in Vancouver. The story of this man ends in his isolation and argument of why he couldn’t smoke weed even if he stopped selling? He asked a parole officer and she didn’t know what to respond. Mark Twain Essay Thesis Example For Students

Mark Twain Essay Thesis In our time, there has been many authors. Perhaps the most interesting and most widely known author has been Mark Twain. Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens in 1835 in Florida, Missouri, Clemens has been known as a humorist, narrator, and social observer. Clemens works are some of the most widely known pieces in this country, and perhaps even the world. At the age of 4, Clemens moved with his family to Hannibal, Missouri, a port located on the Mississippi River. In 1851, he began setting type for and contributing sketches to his brother Orions newspaper, the Hannibal Journal. Later, Clemens was a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River until the Civil War. In 1862 he became a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise in Virginia City, Nevada. In 1863, he started using his pseudonym Mark Twain, which was a river call for a depth of two fathoms. This was the beginning of Mark Twain, because in 1865, he published The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calavaras County and within months the author and the story had become national sensations. Two of his recent novels have also been extremely popular. The Gilded Age, which was published in 1873, took a look into the materialism and corruption in the 1870s. Another book, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, has been very popular. The story celebrates boyhood in a town on the Mississippi River. Reporters and many other people have been awaiting a sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, but the author has not promised anything. He states that he is now working on another novel, which has yet to be named, but has given the plot away. He has said that the story is for children, and that it blends the simplicity of a fairy tale with realistic social criticism. Mark Twain is one author that is very humorous, and has ended the domination of American literature by New England writers. He portrays uniquely American subjects, in a humorous and colliqual, yet poetic, language. We hope to see many more works from this author!Words/ Pages : 376 / 24

Newsletter and Financial Statements

Question: Discuss about The regulatory environment and financial reportin and Analysis of financial statement. Answer: The regulatory environment and financial reporting We are pleased to present the newsletter to you, which bring forth the current development in financial sector and other associated updates. The outsourcing function is a trending phenomenon that has been currently catching pace with different business function like accounting HR, finance, IT roles, customer-oriented services and a lot more. As a consequence the presentation of major key function is also assigned by companies to a third party service administrator. Discussing and drawing lights on the above subject and other essential associated topic have been elaborated below: Current Jurisdictive Instruments Wholly Owned Companies (ASIC Instrument 2016/785) As per the Corporation Act 2001 part 2M.3, it is mandatory for companies (other than small proprietary entities) to reveal the information regarding entities and listed investment schemes and the same shall be organized and stated in the Auditors report, Directors report, Income Expenditure statements, Balance sheet and all other financial statement. The wholly owned companies are relieved from signing of contract with holding entity or any other contract delivering cross guarantees and also this act satisfies any other prescribed clauses as well. For any other subsequent information acknowledging details regarding wholly owned entities the Australian Financial Reporting Manual can be studied. Proprietary Entities Audit (ASIC Instrument 2016/784) According to ASIC Instrument 2016/784 CO 98/1417 has been amended but with minor alterations. Wherein the management of large proprietary entity or any undersized proprietary entity is done by an overseas corporation it is obligatory for them to lodge and get it in order with ASIC in Directors Report, Auditors Report and other financial statements within four months period. As per the Corporation Act 2001, section S319 (3), the four-month period shall begin from the closure of accounting year of the entity. AASB 112 (Australia Accounting Standard Board) The Assessment of Unrealistic losses for computation of Deferred Tax Assets has been altered to AASB 112 of Income Tax Act (July 2004) and AASB 112 Income Taxes (August 2015) for stating the assessment of unrealized losses in deferred tax assets on the debt instruments which is being computed at the fair value. Inclusion has been made in paragraph 27A, 29A and 98H and alteration to paragraph 29. This standard is significant for that computation relevant to FY on or after 1st Jan 2017. The further details of the same can be seen on www.aasb.gov.au. Amendment to the AASB 9 in relation to financial instruments and AASB 15 gains from contracts with customers As per the Standardized authority-executing assistance for NPO (not-for-profit organization) into AASB 15 and AASB 9 is mandate. The guidance served shall assist NPO in applying standards towards the specified transactions or any other events. The amendment in AASB 9 shall signify the foremost measurement and delivering of non-contractual receivables occurring as a result of statutory requirement. It includes rates, taxation and overall charges. Moreover the amendment to AASB 15 is indicative of the accounting in association with the customers a) recognizing the contract with customer b) recognizing performance obligation c) allocation of transacting amount to performance obligation. The standard is applicable on or after 1 January 2019 but maybe applicable on any previous date as well. AASB 101 In accordance with the provisions of AASB 101, companies are required to prepare their financial statements by considering guidelines of general purpose financial statements. By complying this standard, thecompany will be in aposition to ensure that financial statements are inter and intra comparable (Cameron, 2014). Provision of this standard specifies standards and format for the preparations of financial statements. Further, it covers description linked to acknowledgement, therevelation of accounting information and calculations of accounting transactions and related aspects. Analysis of financial statement of KoolKlothes Ltd as at 30th June 2016 By considering the asset side of balance sheet, it can be noticed that all assets are in accordance with the provisions of AASB 101 except recording of investment in listed shares, intangible assets and Plant, Property and Equipment. It is because; Para 68A of AASB 101 states that plant and property are required to be shown at net carried value on assets side and notes to account should be provided for detailed description but same has not been followed by thecompany. Trainee accountant has made themistake that accumulated depreciation is shown in liabilities side which is not as per AASB 101. Para 68C of AASB 101 shows that intangible assets are required to be shown separately and not to be clubbed with other assets (Henderson, S., Peirson, G., Howieson). Advertisement costs shown on thebalance sheet is part of theincome statement as it is an expense instead of capital expenditure. The Same provision has been cited in Para 88 of AASB 101. The liability side of balance sheet shows that disclosure of provisions has been provided on anindividual basis which is not correct as it is to be shown under asingle head. Expenses covered under AASB 137 can be adjusted in against of related compensation (Carey, PotterTanewski, 2014). An example of such expenses is amount reimbursed undersuppliers warranty contract. In addition to this, provisions related to warranty should be reduced from account balance, and net value should be disclosed, but the same has not been followed. It shows clear contradiction of Para 68(k) of AASB 101. Another problem is an incorrect presentation of retained earnings. As per Para 68 (p), retained earnings should be shown under the column of equity, but in the presentcase, it is shown under liabilities side. Provisions of doubtful debt are shown by reducing the amount from account receivables, but in the presentcase, it is shown in liabilities which shows incorrect representation. Another mistake is in the presentation of Current and Deferred Tax liabilities as it is not presented on the basis of nature of the account. By considering the above analysis, it can be noticed that prepared financial statements by trainee accountant are not as per provisions of AASB 101. Thus, trainee accountant is required to improve their understanding of accounting provisions and make above-described changes to provide financial reports as per the guidelines of the general purpose of financial statements. A Sample Reflective Essay of an Educational Leadership Program

A Sample Reflective Essay of an Educational Leadership ProgramA sample reflective essay of an educational leadership program can be used to prepare a student or the entire staff for this significant part of their college education. The purpose of this article is to provide you with an overview of the concept of this topic. When the student or the staff takes the reflective exercise during the course of the academic year, they are able to gain a glimpse of what their coursework will entail in the future and reflect on what they've learned so far during the class. They can then compare their current level of knowledge to that of a new student as they both prepare themselves for a common direction in their education. This is also an excellent time for an experienced employee to review how much experience he or she has acquired during the course of their time at the company.Reflective essays are designed to teach a student, employee, or group of students about a specific area in an educat ional leadership program. As such, they are essential for each of these groups in order to accomplish their goals within the environment. An easy example would be to reflect on the overall management of the organization. A sample reflective essay of an educational leadership program can consist of any number of topics that can be chosen to reflect on and allow the participants to learn from their experiences. When the student is focusing on a specific area of their education, they can prepare for the future by reflecting on what they have already learned. Reflecting on their study plan in the past semester allows them to outline a more detailed plan for themselves in the future. Having a broad look at the coursework helps them to identify the areas that they need to focus on in order to gain a competitive edge in their education.A reflective essay of an educational leadership program has the potential to be written as part of an oral examination. It can also be a statement of purpose or even a recommendation that outlines the core values of the company. As the student will be asked to write about any number of things in this essay, they will benefit by knowing where they should begin their writing.Personal growth is one of the main focuses of an essay. Since most teachers allow students to create a personal statement in class, writing a reflective essay of an educational leadership program can provide the student with a good place to start on their personal statement. However, personal statements can also be written during the course of the program as a way to build upon the theme of the reflective essay. An employer would likely consider a reflective essay as being reflective of the student's aptitude and skill set. An employer would not want to hire a student who is poorly prepared to answer questions or who has little to no knowledge on the material that will be presented in the course of the career development program. Since the employers are looking for ski lls, not aptitudes, they will expect the student to demonstrate their ability in that area before they will even consider hiring them. The goal of a reflective essay is to improve a student's self-image as well as to make a strong first impression on an employer. It is in fact an excellent opportunity for a student to review their skills, abilities, and knowledge as a means of preparing themselves for the classroom.

Cost changes and the Implementation of Control Mechanisms

Introduction In one form or another problems often occur in projects whether they come in the form of delays, cost changes, timeline adjustments or a variety of other problems that create scheduling and planning problems during a project (Lenfle and Loch, 32 – 55). In order to resolve such incidents, it is often necessary to have a control change mechanism in place to make sure that alternative plans exist for particular processes to continue to function normally.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Cost changes and the Implementation of Control Mechanisms specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Cost changes and the Implementation of Control Mechanisms Ingredients and Menu Pricing One of the main problems in the restaurant business are sudden cost changes to ingredients brought about by nature calamities such as floods, earthquakes, red tide etc. This directly impacts the restaurant’s bottom-line since if the dished served costs more to make than its indicated price on the menu then the restaurant would of course lose money as a direct result. Taking this into consideration, the contracts between the restaurant and suppliers must be amended in order to have some form of provision indicating that the restaurant will only buy a certain number of ingredients based on a previously agreed upon set price. This ensures that should there be a sudden change in the price of ingredients the restaurant will not be contractually liable to purchase them at a loss (Lenfle and Loch, 32 – 55). It must also be noted that there a certain degree of control must be implemented on the menu prices themselves. Aside from the external circumstance that may increase the price of ingredient the restaurant also needs to take into consideration subsequent increases in employee salaries as a direct result of cost of living increases not to mention the fact that there are also issues related to rent, utili ties expenses and miscellaneous other expenses that may occur that necessitate price increases on the menu. As such, cost control mechanisms must be implemented in regards to these potential problems in regards to an adjustable profit/loss scale in order for the restaurant to determine what point would it be necessary to implement changes in pricing (Lenfle and Loch, 32 – 55). Timeline Adjustments Between the planning and actual performance stage comes the implementation stage where all the initial plans for the restaurant are implemented and tested in order to ensure that everything is working as it should be.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More During this particular stage though, you must take into consideration that not everything will go as planned and as such it is necessary to implement sufficient timeline adjustments that take into consideration delays in con struction, equipment arrival, training of staff, creation of sufficient supply contracts and a variety of other potential delays that may occur (Blackstone, Cox, and Schleier, 7029-7046). What you have to understand is that control mechanisms in the form of rescheduling strategies, a work around plan and a variety of other processes are needed in order for operations to continue unimpeded (Blackstone, Cox, and Schleier, 7029-7046). The creation of a restaurant comes in particular stages with one aspect leading to another, if delays occur and the owner still attempts to push on through with the original schedule, the possibility of grave problems (i.e. faulty wiring, food being delivered too early, untrained staff etc.) increases exponentially. As such, it is necessary to implement some form of alternative plan when certain delays occur in order for certain processes to still go ahead as planned without necessarily causing interruptions with other aspects of the processes needed to f inish the restaurant. Project Performance When it comes to the overall performance of the project, certain control mechanisms need to be implemented in order to ensure that everything is going according to plan and is not over budget. This involves control mechanisms which examine the daily costs associated with construction, the amount of progress made in finishing the restaurant and determining whether the speed in which the construction is being done is in line with the original budget for the construction of the restaurant. Furthermore, it must be determined whether the training of employees for the restaurant as well as the development of the necessary preparations for promotion are also on schedule (Krane et al., 54 – 67). Neglecting to examine such factors and implement some measures of control to them can lead to a disastrous openingAdvertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Cost changes and the Implementation of Control Mechanisms specifically for y ou for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Introducing Project Contracts and Agreements In regards to properly implementing the necessary project contracts and agreements, these activities will be instituted through the various development plans of the restaurant via a consensus of the project team. New iterations to the contracts will be discussed and deliberated until all parties involved are satisfied with the changes. Once all parties are in agreement the agreements and contracts will then be subsequently finalized and implemented into the main project development plan. Informing the Project Team of Changes to the Plan Should subsequent changes to the project plan be necessary the project team in conjunction with personnel who are directly impacted by the changes will be called to the restaurant site (or the nearest possible convenient location) in order to discuss the subsequent changes needed. Should various individuals be otherwise indisposed due to a com bination of events the details of the meeting will be forwarded to them via a transcript report and their role in the changes will be indicated. Potential Impact on Budgets, Schedules and Deliverables Once the project has been proved and is underway it is expected that there will be changes in budgetary allotments and schedules will definitely be delayed. What you have to understand is that there is a world of difference between planning something on paper and actually seeing things through. Sudden changes as a direct result of external circumstance often occur, as a result costs often spiral upwards with the original budget intended for the implementation stage of a restaurant project often reaching 15 to 20 percent over budget. Such is the nature of implementation procedures that more often than not project managers often allocate a certain amount from the intended capital when starting a particular business in order to deal with costs related to going over budget. It must also be noted that developing a scheduling plan for construction, installation, training and a variety of other necessary processes all hinges on the fact that everything is completed by the allotted time given for a particular activity. Unfortunately this is often not the case and as such control mechanisms in the form of alternate schedules must be devised in order to deal with such problems.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Deliverables on the other hand will definitely be affected with the potential for certain outcomes being delayed or not happening at all as a direct result of certain changes to the overall planning of certain aspects of the projects. In cases such as this it is best to adjust the expectations of what deliverables may occur based on the new data from the project planning stage. Works Cited Blackstone, John H., James F. He had three sisters and two brothers.   On August 22, 1848, Grant married Julia Boggs Dent, the daughter of a St. Louis merchant and slaveholder.  The fact that her family owned slaves was a point of contention for Grants parents. Together they had three sons and one daughter: Frederick Dent, Ulysses Jr., Ellen, and Jesse Root Grant.   Ulysses Grants Military Career When Grant was graduated from West Point, he was stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri. In 1846, America went to war with Mexico. Grant served with General Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott. By the end of the war he was promoted to first lieutenant. He continued his military service  until 1854 when he resigned and tried farming. He had a hard time and eventually had to sell his farm. He did not rejoin the military until 1861 with the outbreak of the Civil War. U.S. Civil War At the beginning of the Civil War, Grant rejoined the military as a colonel of the 21st Illinois Infantry. He captured Fort Donelson, Tennessee in February 1862 which was the first major Union victory. He was promoted to major general. He had other victories at Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge. In March 1864, he was made the commander of all Union forces. He accepted Lees surrender at Appomattox, Virginia on April 9, 1865. After the war, he served as Secretary of War (1867-68). Nomination and Election Grant was unanimously nominated by the Republicans in 1868. The Republicans supported black suffrage in the south and a less lenient form of reconstruction than that espoused by Andrew Johnson. Grant was opposed by Democrat Horatio Seymour. In the end, Grant received 53% of the popular vote and 72% of the electoral vote. In 1872, Grant was easily renominated and won over Horace Greeley despite the many scandals that occurred during his administration. Events and Accomplishments of Ulysses Grants Presidency The largest issue of Grants presidency was  Reconstruction. He continued occupying the South with federal troops. His administration fought against states who denied blacks the right to vote. In 1870, the  fifteenth amendment  was passed providing that no one could be denied the right to vote based on race. Further in 1875, the  Civil Rights Act  was passed which ensured that African Americans would have the same right to use inns, transportation, and theaters among other things. However, the law was ruled unconstitutional in 1883. In 1873, an  economic depression  occurred that lasted five years. Many were unemployed, and many businesses failed. Grants administration was marked by five major scandals. Black Friday  - September 24, 1869. Two speculators,  Jay Gould  and  James Fisk, tried to buy up enough gold to corner the gold market while keeping Grant from dumping federal gold on the market. They drove up the price of gold quickly before Grant realized what was going on and was able to add enough gold onto the market to bring the price down. However, many investors and businesses were ruined because of this.Credit Mobilier - 1872. In order to cover up stealing money from the Union Pacific Railroad, officers of the Credit Mobilier company sold stocks cheaply to members of Congress.Grants Secretary of the Treasury, William A. Richardson gave special agent John D. Sanborn the job of collecting delinquent taxes allowing Sanborn to keep 50% of what he collected.Whiskey Ring - 1875. Many distillers and federal agents were keeping money that was being paid as liquor taxes. Grant called for punishment but protected his own personal secretary.Belknap Bribery - 1876. Grants Secre tary of War, W. W. Belknap was taking money from traders selling at Indian posts. However, through all of this, Grant still was able to get renominated and reelected to the presidency. Post-Presidential Period After Grant retired from the presidency, he and his wife traveled throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. He then retired to Illinois in 1880. He helped his son by borrowing money to set him up with a friend named Ferdinand Ward in a brokerage firm. When they went bankrupt, Grant lost all his money. He ended up writing his memoirs for money to help his wife before he died on July 23, 1885. Historical Significance Grant is considered to be one of the worst presidents in Americas history. His time in office was marked by major scandals, and therefore he was not able to accomplish much during his two terms in office.

One of the challenging issues that might arise in the Grief Recovery Group is religious preference. There might be attempts by certain members of the group to align along religious affiliations, which may discriminate and isolate others (Core, Corey & Corey, 2010). This might prove a big challenge to the whole group considering that members will have different beliefs and views that will make it difficult to harmonize ideas. To handle religious preference, I will ask the partnering members demonstrate how their religious affiliation affected their performance in the group. I will also ask the members aligning along common religion to describe their feelings towards others when they align along religious lines. I will also ask the members about how they would feel if they were the victims of the consequences of religious preferences and the actions they would like taken to ensure that members enjoy unity despite the differences Another challenging situation likely to occur in the Grief Recovery Group involves aged persons using illegal drugs. Some members of the group  may decide to begin the use of illegal drugs in bid neutralize their stresses and perhaps help them out of their problems. As a group leader, I will tackle such a problem by initiating a special session with the victim member. A Better Welfare System :: Work Job Employment Essays

A Better Welfare System I do believe people should have to work or get an education while receiving benefits. Nobody should get to get a 'free ride' through life! Nobody pays my way through life, I have to work for what I get. That quote is the word of a twenty-two year-old female who holds down a full-time job, pays rent, and taxes. Some, like her, may feel contempt toward welfare recipients who do not work for their benefits. The welfare system is a program for citizens who need assistance. but it should be considered a privilege, not a free ride. Everyone wants-or professes to want-to "end welfare as we know it," even though the welfare system is still thriving. The new program on the market, Workfare, is a reform tactic that will get recipients into the work force and eventually off benefits. It's is four a.m., and Jenifer Beack is getting her two children ready to go to day care until they are shuttled off to school. Then Jenifer heads to Roseville, Minnesota, to her job as a Customer Support Specialist at Allina Clinic Equipment Services. It's a hectic schedule for this single mother to maintain, but she's willing to do it. A couple of years ago, Jenifer, in her third year of college, was on welfare. It was when a friend told her about STRIDE (Success Through Reaching Individual Development and Employment,) a subdivision of Workfare that she began to see a way out. Lynn Ransom, Case Manager with PIWC 5 (a branch of welfare), went out of her way to help Jenifer with anything she needed. PIWC 5 provided financial assistance for day care, car repairs, gas money, clothing, books and classes. Lynn helped Jenifer develop a resume, fine tune her interviewing skills, and select an interview wardrobe. A Bird Came Down to the Walk

A Bird came down the  walk WRITTEN BY EMILY DICKINSON A Bird came down the walk Background †¢ Dickinson liked to write about small moments in life. †¢ She liked to write about moments between people and animals. Poem Stanza one †¢ From the first line we have the animal world entering the human world. The bird is oblivious to the presence of Dickinson. She watches on as the bird eats a worm. The use of the word ‘fellow’ is suggested to show how impolite this act is but it is only used as an element of humour. Dickinson finds this both fascinating and playful. Stanza two Dickinson continues the observation and continues to run with the gentleman theme and gives the bird an element of grace. By mentioning ‘Dew’ Dickinson shows how closely she is watching the bird as if under a microscope seeing all the minute elements perfectly. Stanza three †¢ There is a change in this stanza as the bird moves from one of grace and poise to one of caution as if it is watchful of possible threats. Even during this time of caution the bird manages to remain beautiful ‘Velvet Head’. Stanza four †¢ In this stanza the word cautious refers to both speaker and bird. While Dickinson tries to bridge the gap between man and animal the bird flying away shows that this will not happen. The bird’s flight is not shown as one of terror but rather with elegance as the bird retains its beauty. Stanza five †¢ This beauteous flight continues into stanza five. This flight is shown to be graceful and noiseless. By showing it this way Dickinson shows that the bird is graceful and is a natural part of this world disturbing nothing. She emphasises this by comparing it to more of nature’s creations. Points to note †¢ Expressing the beauty of nature †¢ Positive poem †¢ Use of imagery and punctuation key

What Behavioral Techniques for Children Would You Use - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 709 Downloads: 5 Date added: 2019/03/22 Category Psychology Essay Level High school Tags: Behavior Essay Did you like this example? Childrens Behavior: Techniques Take a moment and think. If you had a child, what behavioral techniques would you use? Do you know of any behavior techniques? Punishment by application, punishment by removal, problems with using punishment, and how to make punishment more effective are a few of the behavioral concepts and techniques well discuss. What is punishment by application? Punishment by application is when an action, like spanking or yelling is applied to the situation. Therapists discourage punishment by application because the situation is often taken out of hand, leading to abuse. Dubowitz and Bennet shared that spanking is harmless with a swat or two to the butt, but it turns into abuse when a belt or other item is used as a weapon to smack the child. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "What Behavioral Techniques for Children Would You Use?" essay for you Create order The opposite type of punishment to punishment by application is punishment by removal. Instead of introducing something into the situation like the prior punishment, this is the removal or something valued to the child. Something of value to the child might include television, cell phones, or video games. Grounding your child from these valuable things would be an example of punishment by removal because you are removing something they like, not allowing them to use those items or do something they enjoy for a specific period of time. As always, with anything, there are flaws to using punishment. Punishment can be either good, and effective, or bad, and not so effective. First, you ought to know the difference between reinforcement and punishment. Reinforcement is when you encourage something that is already known. An example of this would be encouraging and reminding your child that they must keep their grades up or they will lose their video game privileges. On the other hand, puni shment is the act of weakening a response, which would be some type of bad behavior. Punishment doesnt always solve the behavior issue though, as the child might think that once the punishment is over, it is okay to behave like that again. Problems with physical punishment has flaws because the child may become scared of the punisher, avoiding them, and instead gets the wrong message. This kind of punishment is usually not successful because the child believes that if they misbehave they will be hurt. This is wrong. A child should learn from the situation; understand that what they did was wrong. It is hard to learn right from wrong when being abused or threatened. Along with abuse, comes lying. If the child knows that he or she will be hurt and abused when they do something wrong, they may begin to lie to try and avoid punishment. And as noted before, abuse only brings fear to the child. A child should be able to learn from mistakes. They should look up to their parents, or guardian and learn from what they did wrong, not think they will get abused for messing up. A buse creates fear and anxiety. Fear and anxiety slow down learning and halt it in its tracks. Also, an abusive parent only becomes an abusive role model. Instead we should be teaching children peace, the opposite of harm. How do you instead, make punishment effective? Its simple, three easy steps. 1. Punishment should be given directly after the bad behavior. If this is not done, then the punishment will not be seen as it was related to the bad behavior. 2. Punishment should always stay consistent. For example: if a mother tells her son that if he has bad grades, he will lose his playstation privileges, then she needs to do just so. And finally, punishment should always be followed with reinforcement regarding the correct behavior. For example instead of yelling at your child for peeing their pants, instead remind them that they are a big kid and use the potty. When they use the potty, praise them. Although there is much more to child behavior and related techniques outside of this essay, there is still valuable information and resources within. Punishment by application or removal are just a few techniques out of many ways children can be punished. Also, understanding the problems with punishment and the most ways to make punishment effective, allows the parent or guardian to help the child learn and grow most efficiently.
